SIMMELBAUER Karl Pius
(Karl) Pius SIMMELBAUER was born in 1848 in Budweis (presently Czech Republic). He became a Maschinenmeister.
In 1875 he married Barbara BERGH of Diekirch and the couple settled in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie where SIMMELBAUER worked probably in the “Wilhelm-Luxemburg-Eisenbahngesellschaft”, first as a Schlosser and later as a Maschinenführer.
Around 1890 he moved to Montigny-les-Metz to become Werkmeister in the local Eisenbahnwerkstätte. In parallel to his regular job he set up an atelier for manufacturing protective glasses for industrial workers. In 1893 SIMMELBAUER’s protective glasses received the first price of a competition organised by the Association des industriels de France.
In February 1893 he created the company “K.P. Simmelbauer & Cie” in Metz for manufacturing Schutzbrillen and Schutzmasken.
In 1895 the company took part in the Jubiläumstellung des Großherzoglichen Ackerbauvereins in Diekirch and obtained a silver medal for its Schutzbrillen.
It is not known when and where SIMMELBAUER died.
