SEYWERT François
François SEYWERT (also spelled SEYVERT or SEIVERT) was born in Grevenmacher on 30 May 1790, as son of an aubergiste. In 1817 he married Lucie HATTO, daughter of a jardinier in Luxembourg-city.
The couple set up home, first in 2 rue de la Porte Neuve and then 353 rue de la Boucherie, followed by a move to 268 Marché aux Herbes. In 1827, the family finally moved to 145 Grand’rue.
SEYWERT was a ferblantier.
Besides running his business of ferblantier, SEYWERT associated in 1840 with Jean-Joseph HAUTCOURT to set up a gas factory in the rue du Saint Esprit in Luxembourg-city. The company was called SEYWERT & Cie and was later joined by Pierre Antoine PESCATORE. The latter, however, died in 1844 and the company was dissolved in1846.
In the wake of this forced dissolution of the gaz company, SEYWERT became insolvent and in 1848 was declared bankrupt. His house on 145 Grand’rue and its contents were put up for auction in June of 1849.
SEYWERT died in 1864 in Casino-Gasse, Luxembourg-city.
