Nicolas Michel SCHEFCHEN was born in Esch-sur-Alzette in 1874, his father’s occupation was recorded as Eigentümer. His mother, Françoise FELTGEN died in 1887 and his father Michel died in August 1892. Nicolas was the only child of the couple, and became an orphan at the age of 18.
He must have emigrated to the USA. On 21 September 1893 he married Julie STEICHEN in Ramsey (Minnesota). Julie was born in Luxembourg-Merl in 1871.
Soon after, the couple must have returned to Luxembourg as their first child Gustave was born in Esch-sur-Alzette in June 1894. Nicolas’ occupation was Wirth.
By 1895 the SCHEFCHENs resided in Merl, Nicolas’ occupatin was Rentner. The Hollerich-Merl Census of 1900 shows that Nicolas’ occupation was Metzger. In 1909 Nicolas’ daughter Louise died in Differdange.
In 1916 Nicolas is reported as commerçant in Esch-sur-Alzette.
Nicolas SCHEFCHEN died in 1923 in Esch-sur-Alzette.
