RADELET Ferdinand

(1842 - )
Andenne (BE)

Ferdinand Joseph RADELET was born in 1842 in Andenne (Belgium). His father was menuisier. Ferdinand became ajusteur-mécanicien and resided in Arlon, at least until 1873.

In 1878 (at the age of 35) his name appears for the first time in the local press in the context of his occupation in Luxembourg: he was chef des ateliers of the Chemins de fer Prince-Henri in Pétange where he took up residence.

He must have left Luxembourg in 1893 for Brussels to set up his own business in the field of railways.

His younger brother Eugène (b. 1847 in Andenne), known as Auguste, also left Andenne for Luxembourg; he was, like his brother, a mécanicien. Auguste settled around 1880 in Esch-sur-Alzette and moved to Longwy towards 1890.

Auguste’s son Fernand, born in Longwy in 1895 as Ferdinand, stepped into his uncle’s footsteps by starting his own atelier around 1920 in Brussels, possibly taking over his uncle’s enterprise.

Fernand obtained a number of patents, first in the field of railway construction, later in armaments and finally in the field of combustion engines.

Fernand died in Longwy in 1976.

It is not known when and where Ferdinand RADELET died.
