MANDERSCHEID Nicolas

MANDERSCHEID was born on 24 July 1822 in Roth an der Our, on the German border, near Vianden. In 1845 he married Catherine LORENZ, born in Bettendorf to a farmer’s family.
The couple settled in Bettendorf where MANDERSCHEID was a Hufschmied and lived in the house called: Neuen Schmiedt, and had eleven children.
Besides inventing a Dreschmaschine in 1856, his name is mentioned as one of the petitioners (including Felix de Blochausen) for obtaining a:

…concession pour l’exploitation de mines de fer ou autres qui se trouvent sur le territoire de la commune de Bastendorf, sections de Bastendorf et de Tandel.

MANDERSCHEID constructed a second agricultural machine which he called sous-seps and which he presented at the Concours de la Société Royale d’agriculture in 1867 and for which he was awarded a prime de 20 fr.
MANDERSCHEID acquired Luxembourg nationality in 1862.
It is not known when and where he died.
