LIPPMANN Jonas
(1770 - 1841)
Binswangen/Württemberg (DE)
Jonas LIPPMANN was born in 1770 in Binswangen/Neckarsulm, Württemberg (DE).
Around 1800 he lived in Ennery (FR), some 15 km south of Thionville, and around 1811 he came to Luxembourg.
In 1821 he established a glove factory in 192 rue Philippe II in Luxembourg-city. His eldest son, Isaïe, partner in his Luxembourg business, was born in Ennery in 1804.
Gabriel LIPPMANN (1845-1921), Nobel Prize in Physics (1908), and born in Bonnevoie/Hollerich, was the son of Isaïe.
The LIPPMANNs themselves were not inventors but only interested in “importing” patents. They were not successful.
Jonas LIPPMANN died in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie in 1841 and the LIPPMANNs left Luxembourg in 1848.
Isaïe LIPPMANN died in Paris in 1894.
