KÜRZER Philippe Jacques

(1859 - )
Weissels (DE)

Philipp Jakob KÜRZER was born in Weissels (DE) in 1859. He was married to Jeanne Gertrude CROMHOUT, born in Utrecht (NL). The couple had two children one born in Köln (1889) and the other in Mulhouse (1892).
In 1897 he came to Luxembourg and took up residence in Hollerich (10 Nillesstrasse). KÜRZER was Fabrikant von Acetylenlicht.
He soon got involved in a court case for having obtained in Luxembourg a patent for an invention belonging to a German engineer named Julius SCHÜLTE. KÜRZER (qualified as électricien) claimed that SCHÜLTE had given him the right to apply for the patent in Luxembourg. A German company by the name of HERA, however, proved before the Luxembourg Court that it had earlier acquired the right to the invention and to apply for a corresponding patent in Luxembourg.
In 1900 HERA prevailed and obtained the right to publish the decision of the Court in the local newspapers (see Addendum).
KÜRZER obtained one additional patent for an apparatus for producing acetylene in 1900.
In 1904, however, he was declared bankrupt.
