HAUCK Philippe
HAUCK was born on 26 April 1860 in Sarnstall/Annweiler (Pfalz), some 150 km from Luxembourg-city.
His presence in Luxembourg is documented for the first time in the Census of Luxembourg-city of December 1890. Soon after, his occupation in Luxembourg is revealed by a newspaper ad of 1891. HAUCK is reported as Geschäftsführer of the shop “Wwe Wilh. BARTH”, Uhren- und Goldwaren Handlung, Lager in optischen Gegenständen.
Wilhelm BARTH, at the age of 36, had a tragic accident in December of 1886 (see Addendum).
Four years later, in October 1891, Witwe BARTH recruited HAUCK.
According to the 1895 Census HAUCK was single and lived in 3 rue Guillaume in the household of Witwe Barth. The latter had two daughters, aged 13 and 11 and had not re-married.
In 1902 HAUCK left Luxembourg for München where he set up his own business: “Firma Philipp Hauck”
He became a well-known maker of “torsional pendulum clocks”. He died in 1939.
HAUCK’s clocks still appear occasionally in auctions.
