GROSSE Amédée

(1849 - 1883)
Metz (FR)

GROSSE was born in Metz on 26 November 1849. His father, Antoine GROSSE, was fabricant de voitures in Metz and an inventor. The latter had obtained in 1861 a French patent for a “système à enrayer les voitures et dételer les chevaux”.
The GROSSE family moved from Metz to Luxembourg, presumably sometime around 1875 and settled in Limpertsberg-Gibraltar where Antoine GROSSE’s occupation was Schlosser, Kutschenfabrikant. His son Amédée GROSSE also became a Kutschenfabrikant.
In 1876 Amédée married Marie Anne BINTNER, born in 1854 in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie. The marriage took place in Luxembourg-Eich. The couple had four children, born in Luxembourg.
Amédée GROSSE took part in the Exposition universelle of Paris in 1878 and earned a médaille d’argent for his patented invention “mécanique à enrayer” and for a “landau et duc en blanc”.
In August 1879, however, GROSSE went bankrupt. He abandoned his industrial activities in Limpertsberg, offered his patents for sale and left Luxembourg.
GROSSE died in Paris (19e) in 1883 at the age of 33.
