FEHLEN Antoine
Antoine FEHLEN was born in Wellenstein. His father Anton FEHLEN (1778-1859), at the age of 57, married Anna THOMMES (1804-1887) in 1835. When Antoine was born in 1837 his father’s occupation was “pensionnierter Offizier”.
In 1871 he married Marie Louise MARCHAND.
In 1873 he was reported to be living in Luxembourg-city (5 Badenburger-Gasse). His occupation was Bankbeamte. In 1874 he had the opportunity to take over the Caisse commerciale et commerciale owned by Belgian banker François BERGER, and which had run into trouble. In 1875 he re-baptised the bank “Banque A. Fehlen & Cie”.
In 1879 Antoine FEHLEN became administrateur of the “Banque Nationale” and in 1880 he was named “Consul d’Italie” in Luxembourg-city.
FEHLEN’s bank, however, ran into financial difficulty and was declared insolvent on 1 December 1885. As a result, Antoine FEHLEN got involved in numerous court cases filed by creditors of the bank.
In four of his six patents FEHLEN designated Antoine Dominique PESCATORE as co-owner. The latter was a banker/industrialist, vice-president of the “Banque Nationale” and a member of Parliament between 1867 and 1886.
In 1886 FEHLEN’s wife MARCHAND obtained “séparation des biens” and Antoine FEHLEN left Luxembourg, probably for London.
By 1896 he he was reported as “actuellement sans profession, domicile ni résidence connus”.
In 1910 FEHLEN was involved in the bankruptcy of the “Bankverein in Luxemburg”, together with Antoine Dominique PESCATORE.
FEHLEN died in 1915 in London.
