EYDT Aloyse

(1821 - 1889)
Luxembourg-city

Aloyse, born as Louis Denis EYDT, belonged to the well-known EYDT family who possessed three mills along the Alzette in Luxembourg-city: Pulvermühle, Eydtmühle (Neumühle, obere Siechenhofmühle) and Siechenhofmühle (untere Siechenhofmühle).
The EYDT dynasty in the Alzette valley was founded by Nicolas EYDT (b. 1746) and Marie Catherine WARCKEN (b. 1750) (see family tree in Addendum).
Aloyse was the son of Michel EYDT (1780-1859), meunier, and Félicité HOUYET.
He was one of the grandsons of the EYDT-WARCKEN couple.
He was born in 1821 in the Neumühle (papermill in Pfaffental), and graduated from the Athénée Royal Grand-Ducal in 1840 (see Addendum).
He became meunier at the Neumühle (1852).
He later became a member of the Chambre de commerce (1850), and membre du conseil d’administration de la Caisse d’Epargne (1860). After he had resigned from this post in 1867 he became directeur de la Banque Internationale.
Aloyse EYDT died in 1889 in the Neumühle and was buried in Notre-Dame cemetery.
