DANNEELS Edouard

(1866 - 1907)
Brugge (BE)

Edouard Léopold Charles DANNEELS was born in 1866 in Brugge (Belgium). His father was a weaver. Edouard came to Luxembourg in 1893 to work in the “Fabrik Ed. Lazard” (Teinturerie et tissage à vapeur) located in Overpallen (near Arlon).
The Census reports of Bekerich-Overpallen show that in 1895 DANNEELS was a lodger with the family BERNOTH and that in 1900 he lived on the premises of the LAZARD factory in Overpallen. His occupation was Aufseher (foreman).
In 1902, when he filed his patent application in the United Kingdom, he gave 48 rue du Faubourg, Overpallen as his address (presumably that of the factory) and his occupation as “foreman engineer”.
He died in an Arlon hospital in 1907, aged 42 and was single.
It is interesting to note that his inventions did not relate to weaving techniques but to railway signalling systems …
