CITO Camille
Camille CITO was born in Bascharage in 1871 as Clement CITO. He was the son of Jean CITO (Hufschmied) and Madeleine MARX.
He studied at the Athénée in Luxembourg-city and in 1899 qualified as chemical engineer in Aachen.
From 1900 to 1907 he worked in Germany, in the Saxon industry (Hüttenschemiker: Cito Kamille). He was married to Marie KAISER, of German origin. The couple’s first child Elizabeth was born in Germany.
In August 1907 the CITO family emigrated to the USA. According to the US Census of 1910 they resided in New Jersey and Camille’s occupation was superintendent at the Irvington Smelting & Refining Works, New Jersey.
Camille’s second child Camillo (Millo) was born 1909 in Newark (New Jersey).
Judging from the data recorded in Camille’s early patents he left the USA for Belgium towards 1918.
Around 1927 he founded with friends a company in Belgium by the name of “La Métallo-Chimique” for the production of copper sulfate. The company was quoted on the Brussels Stock Exchange. Cito was the company’s administrateur-délégué until he died in Brussels in 1936 at the age of 65.
The funeral ceremony in Brussels was reported at length in the local Luxembourg press.
