BOHLER Victor

Victor Joseph BOHLER was born in Wiltz on 3 May 1890, son of Félicien BOHLER, Arzt.
He studied electrical engineering in Nancy where he qualified as engineer in 1915.
He was married to Antoinette CHOMÉ (1894-1975) and lived in Luxembourg-city.
He had no children and he was not a public figure, with the result that there is little information on his personal life and his professional activities until 1946.
He filed his first patent application in 1946, at the age of 56, and obtained patents for 9 different inventions over the years 1946 to 1949.
It has not been possible to ascertain whether he was indeed the inventor of all the technical innovations for which he obtained patents. In one German patent, at least, BOHLER indicated he was not the inventor. In two further German patents he formally declared that he was the inventor.
All BOHLER’s inventions, expect one (invention n° 8), relate to metal rolling mills. This would indicate that he worked in this field as engineer in the 1930s and 1940s. It is surprising though that it took up to 1946 for his name to appear as inventor in the field.
It has been suggested that BOHLER acted as representative for the company DEMAG in Luxembourg. The latter company was at the time (and still is) a heavy equipment manufacturer and was active in the metal milling rolls technology.
Furthermore, Karl NEUMANN, who was the inventor of patent LU28281 (invention n° 3), later founded MOELLER & NEUMANN in St Ingbert which became part of the DEMAG group.
It is of interest in this context to point out that BOHLER set up (in 1947?) a company in Luxembourg with the name of SOCOLAM for providing equipment made by the St Ingbert firm MOELLER & NEUMANN.
BOHLER registered the word SOCOLAM as trademark in Luxembourg for the products:

Trains de laminoirs et tous dispositifs et accessoires pour laminoirs.

BOHLER died on 6 September 1957 in Luxembourg-city.
(He was the brother of Emile BOHLER, the founder of the “Clinique Dr E. Bohler”.)
