BARBLÉ Ernest

(1866 - 1935)
Vielsalm (BE)

Peter Joseph Ernest BARBLÉ was born in Vielsalm (Belgium) in 1866.
His father Nicolas Ernest BARBLÉ (1837-1915) also used Ernest as his first name which can cause confusion as to which Ernest is the inventor.
A short biography of the family shows that Ernest BARBLÉ (junior) must be considered to be the inventor of patent LU5831:
Nicolas Ernest BARBLÉ (senior) was born in 1837 in Aubange (Belgium). He married Sophie Ernestine DENIS of Vielsalm and his family settled there.
In 1866, however, when Ernest B. (junior) was born in Vielsalm, his father was a conducteur du chemin de fer, domicilié à Strassen and in 1868, when his second child was born in Vielsalm, Ernest senior was conducteur de travaux publics, domicilié à Oudenaarde (Belgium).
Around 1869 Ernest B. (senior) probably moved permanently to Strassen (Luxembourg), as his third child was born there in 1870. Ernest B. (senior) was then recorded as Eisenbahnbeamter, wohnhaft in Strassen.
In the years 1881-1888, Ernest B. (senior) was involved in building railway and tram lines in various parts of the world.
Ernest BARBLÉ (senior) had four sons.
The eldest son Ernest (junior) qualified as engineer in Liège in 1892. In 1889, however, he is reported as “immigrating” to Brussels. (It is possible that he started his studies in Brussels before completing them in Liège.)
Between 1892 and 1900 Ernest B. (junior) held various jobs in Belgium and in Luxembourg.
In 1899 he married Julie RUPPERT, and in 1901 he set up a metal construction workshop in Strassen. Over the years it developed into a successful company.
It was continued by his son Paul (b. 1900) until 1969. Paul BARBLÉ was mayor of Strassen between 1946 and 1964. The Centre Culturel Paul Barblé in Strassen is named after him.
Ernest BARBLÉ (junior) died in Strassen in 1935.
