ETTINGER Edouard
Edouard ETTINGER was born in 1872 in Junglinster. His father was notary in Grevenmacher.
In 1899 he married Marguerite BUCHHOLTZ of Esch-sur-Alzette. Marguerite was the sister of Sébastien BUCHHOLTZ who assisted his father Daniel in running the family Eisenhandel in Esch-sur-Alzette (see family tree in Addendum).
In 1899 Daniel BUCHHOLTZ transferred the Eisenhandel to his son Sébastien and his son-in-law Edouard ETTINGER, and concentrated on developing his second business, a brewery.
BUCHHOLTZ and ETTINGER developed the ironmonger business, and in 1904 invented an acetylene lamp which they called REFORM and later (1918) RECORD (see trademarks in Addendum).
Sébastien BUCHHOLTZ died in July 1921 and Edouard ETTINGER died soon after, in December 1921. The company survived and was restructured in 1927 through the creation of a société anonyme under the name of “Maison Buchholtz et Ettinger”, the shares being held by family members.
