BECKIUS Antoine
Antoine BECKIUS was born 1896 in Beyren (Grevenmacher). His father was a farmer.
He obtained his baccalauréat at the Athénée d’Echternach in 1916.
In 1923 he married Marie Thérèse REUTER, daughter of a cafetier in Luxembourg-city. The marriage record states that BECKIUS’ occupation was stagiaire-expéditionnaire de l’Enregistrement.
In 1931 he left the civil service and became mandataire général de la Compagnie d’assurance La Bâloise. Two years later, in 1933, BECKIUS became mandataire général of the company “Comptoir luxembourgeois d’Assurances et d’Opérations fiduciaires (Coluxas)” and he later became Directeur de la Caisse Hypothécaire du Luxembourg.
BECKIUS entered politics in the 1940s and became conseiller communal of Luxembourg-city in 1946 (with a mandate ending in 1952).
At the end of January 1948 he left the Caisse Hypothécaire and acted as mandataire of the “Société anonyme d’assurances Rotterdam” and as mandataire of the company “La Bâloise-incendie”.
Finally, on 1 July 1952 BECKIUS became also mandataire général for “La Bâloise-vie”.
He ran into financial difficulties soon after, renounced his insurance mandates, and left Luxembourg.
He was sued by “La Bâloise incendie” and by the “Société anonyme d’assurances Rotterdam”. His wife filed a “demande en séparation des biens”.
In 1958, however, BECKIUS came back to Luxembourg-city and obtained a patent.
He died in Luxembourg-city in 1974.
