BEAUDEAU François

(1871 - 1955)
Ambillou (FR)

François Paul BEAUDEAU was born in Ambillou (near Tours). He married Louise BOUGEÂTRE in 1894 and the couple had 4 children (three girls and one boy), all born in Châteaudun (near Orléans). François’ occupation was bijoutier and that of Louise was couturière.
The couple came to Luxembourg sometime around 1910, with their children, and settled in Luxembourg.
BEAUDEAU founded a factory for chain mail (cottes de mailles). The factory was initially situated in 25 rue des Bains in Luxembourg-city. Later the manufacturing operation moved to Luxembourg-Hollerich, 41 rue Nilles (rue de Strasbourg).
In 1917 Louise BOUGEÂTRE, as a trained couturière, started her own venture in rue de Strasbourg for manufacturing bags and wallets: “Fabrique de sacs et bourses argent L. BEAUDEAU”.
Around 1920 the marriage BEAUDEAU-BOURGEÂTRE broke down. Louise asked for a divorce (“demande en divorce pour cause déterminée”), which became effective on 27 July 1920. A controversy took place as to who owned which part of the business and was carried out on the public place. The couple settled their differences in October 1920 by notarial act signed in France (Châteaudun).
The divorce was registered on 27 December 1920 in the Marriage Register of Luxembourg-city.
In 1921 the premises in Hollerich were put up for sale by auction. Further family assets in Bettembourg were sold.
Around 1921, after his divorce, BEAUDEAU transferred his Luxembourg manufacturing equipment to 85 rue des Capucins in Commercy (Meuse).
He re-married in 1925; his second wife, Margaretha WELFRINGER, was born in Remich; she was 25 years younger than François.
BEAUDEAU’s second daughter Yvonne, who had married Nicolas WIRION, remained in Luxembourg and died in Luxembourg-city in 1968. The couple ran a garage at the intersection of route d’Esch and rue de la Vallée.
It is likely that the other two daughters who also had contracted marriages in Luxembourg, albeit with non-nationals, left the Grand-Duchy in the 1920s.
In 1924 BEAUDEAU obtained a second French patent. His occupation was recorded as fabricant de cottes de mailles pour bijouteries.
BEAUDEAU’s second wife Margaretha WELFRINGER had lost her Luxembourg citizenship but recovered it in 1962 which would suggest that she came back to reside in Luxembourg after BEAUDEAU’s death around 1960. WELFRINGER resided in Diekirch in 1962, but died in Luxembourg-city in 1984.
