KUBORN Jean Pierre

(1796 - 1872)
Luxembourg-city

KUBORN was born in Luxembourg-city on 18 December 1796, son of Johannes KUBORN (born in Saarburg) and Agathe BONNECROIX (born in Luxembourg). Father KUBORN was a boulanger on the Marché aux herbes in the city centre.
In 1828 Jean Pierre KUBORN married Marie Anne RINCK, daughter of a boucher. KUBORN’s occupation at the time was commis négociant.
In 1833, when his first child was born, KUBORN was libraire in the heart of Luxembourg-city.
According to Wikipedia, KUBORN started his industrial career in parallel to his job as libraire around 1840 and he finally sold his library business in 1845:

1843 huet de Kuborn dem Eydt d’Millen ofkaaft, well dee Sue gebraucht huet fir d’Dott vu senge Schwësteren ze bezuelen.

In 1987 Jean Luc MUSSET described in detail KUBORN’s industrial venture in Pulvermühl.
The cotton was imported from the USA. As a consequence of the American civil war (1860-1865), the price of cotton tripled and KUBORN was forced to close his factory. It was put up for sale in 1862.
Jean Pierre KUBORN died at the age of 76, on 19 January 1872, very soon followed by his wife Anne Marie RINCK who died on 28 January 1872.
