MOREAU Alexandre Augustin

(1824 - 1898)
Arcis sur Aube (FR)

MOREAU was born in 1824 in Arcis sur Aube, near Troyes in France; he was married to Justine Gabrielle QUENTIN, born in Troyes.
Their first daughter Octavie was born in Gent (Belgium) in 1848 and their second daughter Victorine was born 1849 in Rotterdam (Holland), showing that MOREAU moved around a bit before he settled in Luxembourg in the mid 1850s. Their third child Joseph Edmond was born in Luxembourg in 1857.
MOREAU filed a French patent application on 5 March 1861 for:

perfectionnements apportés dans les métiers circulaires à tricoter.

In September 1861 he applied for a second patent in Luxembourg.
Through the advertisements for the recruitment of Tricotnäherinnen, published in the local press, it is possible to retrace the history of MOREAU’s business on Fischmarkt:
around 1872 he associated with J.-P. Decker, industriel,
around 1876 he operated again as “Tricotfabrik Moreau”,
around 1877 he sold his business to Emile Berchem & Liesch.
It would appear that he went to live in Troyes (FR) around 1880, and that he came back to Luxembourg around 1893.
MOREAU died in Luxembourg-city (place du Marché aux Poissons) in 1898.
