JACOBOVICS Julius
JACOBOVICS was born in 1881 in Amberg (Bavaria) into a Jewish family.
He became a mechanical engineer (Dipl. Ing.).
In 1914 he married Anny MARX in Essen and settled there, first as independent engineer and in 1926 he founded a company in Essen in partnership with Fritz NASSAU under the name of “Rhein-Ruhr Machinen Vertrieb Dipl.-Ing. Jacobovics & Nassau”.
In 1934, however, JACOBOVICS left Essen with his wife and two daughters for Luxembourg where he established the family’s residence in Luxembourg-city (7 rue Jean Bertels).
Fritz NASSAU took over the Essen company and is projects.
While in Luxembourg, JACOBOVICS made one invention for which he obtained patents under his own name (see N° 4 below).
The two JACOBOVICS daughters were also mentioned in the local press:
in January 1937 daughter Ruth (b. 1918) married John LEVY in Luxembourg-city
daughter Renate (b. 1919) trained to become a Modistin and she was successful in the Gesellenprüfung in 1937.
John and Ruth LEVY emigrated in October 1937 to the USA.
Julius JACOBOVICS, his wife and his daughter Ruth lost their German citizenship in August 1937 (Renate did not?).
This prompted the three members of the family JACOBOVICS still living in Luxembourg to emigrate to New York in 1938 and to join Ruth and her husband John LEVY. All obtained US citizenship.
Julius JACOBOVICS made two further inventions in the USA in 1938/1939 (see N° 5 and N° 6 below).
He died in New York in 1949.
