GONTIER-GRIGY Denis Ambroise

Denis Ambroise GONTIER was born in 1811 in Chailly (Seine et Marne, France).
In 1836 he married Eloïse Honorine GRIGY in Coulommiers (Seine-et-Marne, France).
The couple alredy had a child by the name Héloïse Augustine, born in 1835. GRIGY’s occupation was agent principal de la Compagnie d’assurance de l’Union.
In 1841 he was gérant de la société dite la Tricéphale, ou compagnie d’as­surance à prime contre la mortalité des bes­tiaux formée sous la raison sociale GONTIER et Cie in Paris.
GONTIER was an only child, and with the inheritance of his father and that of one of his uncles he moved to Luxembourg in 1841.
He had a house built on 30 rue Beaumont, in the city centre. He was working in a legal cabinet, presumably that of Me Charles SIMONIS.
He also acted as sténographe in the Etats-Généraux (Luxembourg Parliament).
In 1844 GONTIER still lived in rue Beaumont when daughter Emma Catherine was born; his occupation was recorded as Rentner, i.e. without any specific professional activity.
In later years his occupation was recorded in the Civil Registers as directeur d’assurances.
The GONTIER-GRIGYs had three daughters born in Luxembourg.
The family moved several times in Luxembourg-city:

1847 – 222 rue de la place d’Armes
1852 – 35 Marché aux Poissons
1853 – 324 rue de l’Eau
1855 – 7 rue de la Loge

Denis Ambroise GONTIER-GRIGY died on 4 December 1886 at the age of 75 in his home in rue de la Loge N° 7.
