HEINTZÉ Paul

(1861 - 1893)

Paul HEINTZÉ was born in Luxembourg-city (4 Regierungs-Gasse) in 1861.
His grand-father, Luc HEINTZÉ, born 1797 in Grötsch/Silesia (Prussia) came to Luxembourg, probably in the 1820s. Luc HEINTZÉ married in 1828 Madelaine KAYSER, born in Rammeldange/Niederanven. His occupation at the time was cocher. The couple first resided in Rammeldange (1828), subsequently in Luxembourg-city (99 rue de l’Arsenal) and finally in 172 rue Saint Philippe (1831) where Paul’s father Jacques HEINTZÉ was born in 1831.
Jacques HEINTZÉ and his elder brother Pierre HEINTZÉ opened a Magasin de librairie in Luxembourg-city (4, rue de la Reine). They traded under the name of “HEINTZÉ frères”. The two brothers also published papers such as “L’Avenir” and “L’Union”. They pleaded for the annexion of the Grand-Duchy to France, which led to the so-called “Affaire Heintzé” in 1868, in which Pierre was sentenced to one month in prison.
Jacques HEINTZÉ died in 1874 and the company “HEINTZÉ frères” was dissolved in 1875 by Jacques’wife. Pierre died in 1880.
Around 1885 Paul HEINTZÉ started his own company as libraire-éditeur.
He died in 1893 in Bendorf/Coblenz (DE) at the age of 32.
