STEFFEN Nicolas

( - )

When Nicolas STEFFEN applied for his patent in1885 he resided in Luxembourg (Glacis, route d’Arlon). He advertised his services as Schmied und Mechaniker.
In 1894 a newspaper referred to him as Schmiedemeister.
It has not been possible to trace STEFFEN’s origins with certainty.
The following biography would fit STEFFEN if it were not for the fact that the person (2) described in this biography was a Schreiner, rather than a Schmied or Mechaniker:

Nicolas STEFFEN (2) was born in 1830 in Mühlenbach/Eich. His father was a Maurer.
In 1855 STEFFEN (2) married Elisabeth PIERRET from Strassen. In the Marriage Register his occupation is recorded as Schreiner, and he lived in the Papeierbierg (Mühlenbach). His wife Elisabeth died in 1873, the couple had no children.
In 1876 STEFFEN (2) married a second time, with Marie REUTER, daughter of a boulanger in Pfaffenthal.
In 1881, when the couple’s only child was born, STEFFEN (2) was still a Schreiner and lived in Pfaffenthal.
STEFFEN (2) (Schreiner) died in Luxembourg-Limperstberg in 1899.

A future study of the Census reports, once they have been indexed, will possibly permit the origins of Nicolas STEFFEN, the inventor, to be determined.
